Luna walked down to the beach after the main rush of people had died down. She started looking along the beach, trying to find her bag which she had dropped before they arrived by portkey. She finally found it, laying a few yards away in a pile of sand. She dug it out and looked through its contents. Inside she found everything that was originally there, including the picture of her mother, which was now wrinkled and wet.

Harry walked along the beach, looking at all of the things that had washed up. A slight breeze played at his face and he felt extremely comforted in the peaceful surroundings of the island. He noticed Luna looking through all of the things and smiled. At first, talking to Luna was very strange. She was so odd and had a large amount of quirks but when he got to know her, he realized that they weren't very different. He could really relate to her.
"Everything alright, Luna?" he asked, hoping nothing had been damaged by the rush of the water. Enough of her things had been taken by the students at Hogwarts, she didn't need the forces of nature against her too.

Luna ran her fingers over the paper, watching her mother smile and wave, though somewhat distorted from the water and sand.
"Oh, yes Harry. My picture is just a little wet." she said, holding it out toward him. "It's my mother." she said with a grin, pointing toward the smiling blonde haired lady sitting on the kitchen counter. "My father took this before the accident." she added, setting her bag down in the sand.

Harry walked over to her and forced a smile as he looked down at the happy woman in the photograph. It was truly a sad story, what Luna saw, so it wasn't exactly something that he could smile about easily but he felt as though he should right now. "I'm sure you could fix that up with a spell," he said, peeling his eyes away from the picture. None came to mind but if Luna didn't know one, Hermione probably would.

"Oh, it's alright. I think I can just let it dry out, and if that doesn't work, I always have memories. Those can never be ruined." she said, leaning down and pulling a dry book out of her bag. She flipped to one of the middle pages and placed the picture inside so it would be safe. "How are you Harry? Adjusting well to life here?" she asked, stuffing the book back into her bag.

Harry didn't have to force his smile anymore. He didn't know how Luna could always be so optimistic about everything He wished he was more like that... and not many people would wish they were like Loony Luna Lovegood. "I'm just fine, Luna. I actually like it here," he said, nodding and looking around. "And how about yourself? How are you doing?"

"I'm okay, no problems so far. I think it will be a bit better than the castle, and I get to be outside more." she said with a wide grin spreading across her face. "I mean, it's hard not to like it here, it's so beautiful. And even if you didn't like it, this is where we are, and you'd have to get use to it anyway." she said, sitting down in the soft sand, letting the cool water wash over her toes.

Harry sat down too, but folded his legs underneath him. "I think the thestrals will miss you," he said with a grin. He didn't know anyone else who would want to spend time with creatures like that but she showed him that there was an odd kind of beauty to them. They were strange creatures, sure, but they weren't nearly as ominous as they were made out to be.

She smiled and drew in the sand with her finger. "Oh, I think they'll be alright. I'm sure they won't miss me too much. But I really hope there aren't any nargles here. I don't want any of my things going missing here on the island, and I don't have my charm." she said, drawing the outline of a butterfly and then a flower.

Harry shook his head. He knew quite well that nargles weren't taking her things but he wouldn't question her. She probably wouldn't have believed him if he did anyway. "Yeah," he said with a grin, looking into the water. "That would be terrible." As much as he liked Luna, he could never bring himself to believe the things she said or what they wrote in the Quibbler. Especially not after the article he read about Sirius.

"I'm really glad you're here Harry." she announced after a few moments of silence between them. "It's nice to have someone to talk to...you're the first one that hasn't accidentally called me Loony instead of Luna. And one of the first who doesn't do it on purpose either." she said, still making little drawings in the sand with her index finger.

Harry smiled, looking back at her. "I'm glad you're here too, Luna," he admitted, although he would probably never say why. It was just so easy for him to relate to Luna with all she's been through. She was also one of the few who believed him when he said that Voldemort was back. Harry probably wouldn't have befriended Luna if it wasn't for that fool of a minister they had. At least something good came out of that.
Harry didn't think Luna was crazy, per say. Strange, yes, but in his opinion, just about anything was possible in the wizarding world. People shouldn't be shut down for their beliefs. The way he saw it, that was what the muggles did with anyone who believed in magic so they should keep their minds open.

Luna laid back in the sand and started up at the sky, looking at all the different cloud formations that adorned the vast blue blanket. She closed her eyes and listened to the sounds of the waves crashing against rocks along the coast and of the birds squawking in the trees behind them.
Luna never really knew why people were always so mean to her, so she dismissed it as ignorance and moved on. But she was glad that she had seemed to finally make a friend. Her father had been worried that she was traumatized by her mother's death, and that's why she couldn't relate to people very well, but Luna thought she was perfectly fine.

Harry watched as the tide rose and fell. He absently pulled some small seashells from the sand and set them back down after looking at them. "Do you know who you'll be in a room with?" he asked, hoping it would be someone who would either be nice to her or just ignore her. Either way would be fine by him as long as they didn't steal her things or tease her. Harry had never heard her make any reference to the fact that people call her Loony before and it bothered him a bit that she wasn't quite as unaffected as he had thought.

"Neville I think. He's nice, so I think that'll be fine. But I don't plan on spending a lot of time inside anyway. I might sleep on the beach tonight." she added, opening her eyes and looking up at Harry. "What about you? Who's in your room?" she asked, picking up the little locket that was around her neck, playing with it absentmindedly.
